LOCATION: This
kshetram is otherwise called as MAHABALIPURAM which is 65 kms from Chennai. All
facilities exist here for pilgrims.
MOOLAVAR:
STHALASAYANAR(స్థలశయనర్) in bhujanga sayanam east facing.
THAAYAAR:
Nilamangai naachiyaar(నిల మంగై నాచ్చియార్)
VIMAANAM:
Gaganaakaara(గగనాకార) vimaanam.
PRATHYAKSHAM : To
Pundareeka maharishi.
AALWAAR PAADAL:
Poodath aalwaar and Thirumangai Aalwaar have sung paasurams here.
STHALAPURAANAM:
This is the birth place of POODATH AALWAAR. Sannidhi where aalwaars did
mangalaa saasanams was damaged due to the sea waves. Another sannidhi was built
later in a nearby place. This is the only one place where Swami is worshipped
as STHALASAYANAAR.
Once, when
Pundareeka maharshi was worshipping the Swami with taamara flowers(తామర పుష్పాలు), Swamy came as an old brahmin and asked him for food as he is
hungry; Maharshi left to procure some food. When Mahrshi returned back, he saw
Swami in bhujanga sayanam wearing all the taamara flowers kept by the maharishi
for worshipping. Maharishi was astonished and addressed Swaami as
STHALASAYANAR.
There is a sannidhi
for Varaahaswami(Gna nappiraan); here, thaayaar is held by Swaami on his right
side; hence this sannidhi is called as VALANENDAI(వలనెన్ దై).
