This
Kshetram is about 4 to 5 kms from Paapanaasam R.S. on Chennai- Trichy main
line. Bus facilities are available from Kumbakonam. From this kshetram in
5 kms distance on way to UmayaaLpuram, there is MaNnangudi, which is the birth
place of Thodaradippodi Alwaar.

This place is 16 kms from Kumbakonam.
This place is also called as Bhaargavapuri, Brahmapuram, Paraasara kshetram and
Indrapuram. This is one km from Senganoor and is on the bus route from
Kumbakonam to Anaikkarai. Busses are available from Mayavaram and Kumbakonam.
In Tamil veLLi means Sukra. Sukra did penance here and Vishnu gave
darshan to him. Hence this is called as Thiru Velliyangudi. During
Vaamanaavataara, when Bali was about to give daanam, Sukra intervened in the
vessel's nostle and tried to stop the flow of water and lost his eye. He
therefore did penance worshipping Vishnu for regaining his lost eye; Lord gave
darshan to him as Sri Rama and gave him the eye sought for. Sukra
requested mayasura to construct a temple for Sri Rama; Maya prayed Sri Rama to
rest there until he constructs a temple for Him. So, Sri Rama rested here
on five headed Aadisesha.

giving darshan to Sukra, He gave his sanku and chakra to Garuda; hence here
Garuda here is holding sanku and chakram. It is believed that this temple is
equal to Paramapadam and worship here gives benefit of worship in all the 108
divyadesams. A special feature here is that here in garbhagruha there is an
akhandadeepam all thoughout the year. During Sriramanavami period,
brahmostavams are held for ten days. There are upaalayaas for Godhadevi and
Yoga Naarasimhan here.

This is one of the
11 Thirunaanguur Divya desams and is the biggest among them. When Indra lost
his isvaryam due to Doorvaasa's saapam and after he regained it with
Ksheerasaagara madhanam, he did penance here to express his gratitude. Vishnu
gave darshan to him and gave him pranava gnaanam. Indra prayed Lord to stay
here; hence Lord is called as Sri Nandavilakku swami. Thirumangai Alwar
compared Nandavilakku swamy with Sri Narayana and sang a few paasurams;
so Lord is also called as Sri Narayanan. There is a spacious mandapam to the
right of the Gopuram where Utsavar of the other Thirunangur divyadesams come
and assemble here. Every year in chitri maasam for ten days brahmostavams
are held with Chitra nakshatram as teerthavari. Kalyaanams and Rathostavams are
also held. In Thai maasam, amavasya, Thirumangai Alwaar's mangalaa
saasanam to all the Thirunangoor divyadesam utsavar are held. After the
utsavaas are over, all the other Utsavar will go back to their places. This
get-together is a must-see affair for devotees. Sthala puraanam says that by
worshipping here, devotees will get Badareenaatha darsana phalam. Rail and road
facilities are available from many important centres in Tamulnaadu. Thirumangai
Alwar has sung ten paasurams here.

LOCATION: 1km from
Mani maadakkovil kshetram and 10 kms from Sirkazhi town. This is one of the 11
THIRU Nangoor Tirupati . According to sthala puraanam, Swethakethu an
ikshwaku Raja and his wife did penance to have darshan of lord Narayana. They
first worshipped airavateswaran (shiva) and prayed to grant darshan of Narayana
to them. Shiva said he can’t grant that and joined their Tapasya. Perumal
appeared before them after long penance and assured them moksham at the end of
that yugam and asked them to do Annadanam to Srivaishnavas. Siva requested
Vishnu to give darshan in 11 roopaas in 11 places, hence known as eleven
Thirunaangoor Tirupatis . MULAVAR: Vaikuntanathan in sitting posture east
facing with ubhaya nachchiyar with chaturbhujaas, holding sanku and
Chakra in two hands and holding a flower in one hand and keeping another hand
on His knee. THAAYAAR: Vaikuntavalli Thaayaar with chaturbhujams
holding flowers in two hands and with abhaya and varada mudraas with two hands.
There is no separate sannidhi for thayar.

facilities are available here for devotees, they have to stay in Sirkazhi .

THIRU ARIMEYA
VINNAGARAM:

This is also one of
the 11 Thirunangur Tirupatis.
. LOCATION: 8kms
from Sirkazhi town. ARI means SriHari, MEYAM means nivaasam, that's called
Arimeya Vinnagaram. This is popular as Kodamadu koothar Koil. There is no
dhwaja sthambam in this temple. MOOLAVAR: Kodamadu Koothar in sitting
posture facing east.

Once both the wives
of Kashyapa Vinatha and kadruva had a challenge. Vinatha lost in that and
became slave to kadruva.
To release Vinatha
her son Garuda brought Amrutha Bhandam from Indra. He placed it in front of
Maduravalli and sons on Darbha. They decided to consume Amrutham after taking
sacred bath in Kaveri.
Meanwhile an asura
by name mayavi lifted that Kalasham.
Perumal seeing this
let loose an arrow and cut off his hand.
The Amrutham fell
on the ground and became Amrutha terrtham. Perumal appeared in the banks of
that pond and swallowed Amrutham and filled it with water.
He felt happy and
danced on the kalasam. Kalasam in Tamizh is called kodam and kooththu means
dance. Perumal is named as Kodamadu kooththar
He gave darshan to
Udanka maharshi and
on his request stayed here as Kodamadu Koothar swamy keeping a leg on a
kodam (pot). Thirumangai Alwar has sung ten paasurams here. In Aadi maasam
(july-aug) brahmostavams are held. In THAI maasam,(Jan), Thirumangai Alwar
mangalaa saasanam utsavaas are held.

This is also called
as MAADHAVA PERUMAAL KOIL(Keezh chalai).
LOCATION: 7 Kms from Sirkazhi with no
facilities for devotees to stay here.

Gadha and abhaya mudra in two hands, in standing posture facing east.

Maadhava Naayaki/Kadalmagal Naachiyaar in sitting posture with chaturbhujaas,
holding flowers in two hands and with varada and abhaya mudras in two hands.
KADAL means samudram and MAGAL means daughter,
hence called as Kadalmagal Naachiyaar.

pushkarini, also known as Deva Sabha Pushkarini.
STHALAPURANAM:
Vasista Maharshi while searching a suitable place for doing penance came to
this place. When Vishnu gave darshan having pleased with his devotion, Vasista
prayed that he stay with Mahalakshmi here as at this place they were married.Moolavar
looks like a bridegroom in garbhaalayam and many devathaas assembled here to
watch their marriage, the pushkarini is called Sobhana pushkarini and as Deva
sabha pushkarini.
THOGAI means a
group/samooham, all devataas assembled into a sabha, it is called Deva sabha
pushkarini and the kshetram as Devanaar THOGAI.
PRATYAKSHAM: Vasista Maharshi. Thirumangai
Alwar has sung ten paasurams here. As in the case of other eleven THIRU
Naangoor Kshetrams, in THAI maasam (Jan) Thirumangai Alwar mangalaa saasanam
utsavaas are held and annual brahmostavams are held in July/Aug_for ten days.
One special feature of this kshetram is that you will not see the shadow of
rajagopuram at any time in the day.

THIRUVAN PURUSHOTHAMAM:
సేవ్య శ్రీ పురుషోత్తమాఖ్య నగరే క్షీరాబ్థి తీర్థాంచితే నాయక్యా పురుషోత్తమాహ్వయయుజా ప్రాగాస్య సంస్థానగమ్ సంజీవిగ్రహ దేవయాన విలస ద్రూపోపమన్యుః ప్రియం శ్రీమంతం పురుషోత్తమ ప్రభుమహం శార్ఙాంశ యోగిస్తుతమ్.
LOCATION:
This is also one of the 11 Thirunangur Tirupatis about 8 kms from Sirkazhi town
with no facilities.
MOOLAVAR:
Purushothaman Swamy in standing posture with chaturbhujaas(with sanku, Chakra,
abhaya and varada mudra's).
THAAYAAR:
Purushothama Naayaki chaturbhujaas with abhaya and varada hasthams and holding
flowers in two hands.
VIMANAM: Sanjeevi
vigraha vimanam. Garbhaalaya gopuram is called as Sanjeevi vigraha vimaanam as
it was believed to have been constructed with the sila which fell down at this
place when Hanumaan was carrying Sanjeevi moolika parvatham.
Gopuram has
five stories
PUSHKARINI:
Ksheeraabdhi theertham, also called as Thiruppaar Kadal Theertham. Originally
it was a milk sarassu, subsequently it became a normal theertham. Devotees take
this theertham with devotion.
STHALA PURAANA:
Vyaagrahapaada Maharshi while visiting some kshetraas along with his
child, came to this place, kept his son under the shade of a tree and
went to get some flowers in a nearby flower garden; when the child became
hungry and wept, Sri Hari came and created a Ksheeraabdhi theertham and
gave Kshetram to the child. Having come to know this, he came running;
Sri Hari gave darshan to him. He prayed Him to stay here itself. After the
child, known as Upamanyu, came to know of this story later on, he worshipped
and Sri Hari gave darshan as Sri Rama.. Sridevi and Bhudevi utsava
moortees are also can be seen in garbhaalayam. Sri Sitha and Sri
Ramachandraswamy as also Hanumaan are in a separate upaalayam here. Thirumangai
Alwar has sung 10 paasurams here. Utsavams are held in January and in
July/August as in the other Thirunaangoor temples

This kshetram is about 2 kms to the south of
Thiruthevanaar THOGAI Kshetram and about 8 kms from sirkazhi. Famous as
Pallikonda Perumal Koil. MOOLAVAR: Semgan mal Ranganathar(Lakshmi
Rangan) Bhujanga sayanam on Aadisesha with chaturbhujaas facing east.

LOCATION:
One km from Thirunaangoor; 8 kms from Sirkazhi . No facilities are available
for devotees here. This is one of the eleven Thirunaangoor Divya
Kshetrams.
STHALA
PURAANAM: Dhaksha prajaapati is one of the nine prajaapathis created by
Brahma. Dhaksha gave his 27 daughters in marriage to Chandra; Chandra was
showing more love and affection towards Rohini only; when the other 26
daughters of Daksha complained about this to their father, Chandra was advised
by Daksha to show equal affection to all his 27 daughters; but still Chandra
disregarded his advice; Daksha cursed Chandra to suffer from TB; on the
suggestion of some Maharishis, Chandra came to this place, created a pushkarini
and did penance. Maha Vishnu gave darsan to him and restored his previous glory
by annulling the saapam. At his request, Vishnu resided here as Sri Varadaraja
swamy.

Naayakan with chaturbhujaas, holding sanku, Chakra and Gadha and abhaya hasta,
in standing posture facing east. Sridevi and Bhoodevi are on His both
sides.

38: THIRUKKAAVALAMPAADI

LOCATION: This is one of the eleven Thirunaangoor tirupatees. It is 11
kms from Sirkazhi R.S and 1 km from Thiruttevanaar Thogai kshetram.
There are no facilities here for stay.
STHALA PURAANAM: Once sage Doorvaasa was
performing a penance; Devendra sent an apsarasa by name Kunthala to spoil his
penance. Doorvaasa got angry and gave her saapa that she will be born to a
hunter. A few years after her birth, Varuna saw her and loved her;
Vishvaksena was born to them. He performed tapas and Maha Vishnu gave darsan to
him and made him as His Senaa Naayaka and gave him a place in Vaikuntam. He
granted Vishvaksena's prayer and stayed there as Gopaalakrishna along with
Rukmini and Sathyabhaama.
MOOLAVAR:
Gopalakrishna along with Rukmini and Sathyabhama. Here He is in a standing
posture with two hands, holding a chernaakola in one hand, and keeping one hand
on a cow.
THAAYAAR:
Chengamala Naachiyaar, Madavaral Mangai. There is no separate sannidhi for
Thaayaar here.

LOCATION: About 7 to 10 kms from Seerkaali
and 1 km from Thiruttevanaar THOGAI kshetram. No facilities are available here
for stay. This is also one of the 11 Thirunaangoor Thirupati Kshetrams where
all the utsavaars of the eleven Kshetrams meet once in an year for Garuda
sevai.
MOOLAVAAR:
Srinivasan Perumaal alias Annan Perumaal in a standing posture facing east. It
is believed that this Perumaal is the elder brother of Srinivasa Perumaal of
Thirumala. This place is also called as Then Thirupathi I.e., Thirupathi of
south.Perumal is also called as Kannan Narayanan Perumal. THAYAAR:

PRATYAKSHAM: Rudra,
Sweta Rajan of Surya vamsa dynasty. People who are unable to go to Thirumala(Tirupati),
believe that vows meant for Thirumala Perumaal can be carried out in this
temple. This is the birth place of Kumudavalli Naachiyaar who married
Thirumangai Alwaar who sang 10 paasurams here.
STHALA PURAANAM: This area was ruled by a Surya
vamsa king Dundumaran. He had a son named as Swethan. As the boy's horoscope
indicated that he with live only for nine years, he approached Sage
Vasista and as per his advice, the king prayed here under the shade of a Bilva
tree chanting Mahaa Mrutyunjaya mantra; both Siva and Vishnu gave darsan and
gave the child long life. Perumaal is with varada hastham, hence called as Sri
Varadarajan also. Devotees perform Tulaabhaaram equal to their weight
with either rice, jaggary, sugar, small change etc after their
desires are fulfilled by the Perumal. Brahmostavams are held here in Purataasi
month every year for ten days.

This is also one of the 11 Thirunaangoor Kshetrams. This place is about 12 kms
from Sirkazhi and 3 kms south of Thirunaangoor kshetram. No facilities are

with sword facing north.Arjuna got darsan of Krishna with chaturbhujaas
and got his enlightment. Krishna is said to have explained the meaning of
charama sloka to Arjuna and made him realise that he should do his duty and
leave the rest to God. There is one more utsavar vigrahas for Kolavilli Raman
with sanku, Chakra, Gadha in standing posture adorned with bow and arrow.
Thirumangai Alwaar has sung ten paasurams here.
STHALA
PURAANAM: The story relating to this place is that Sage Agastya did
penance here and after some years, there occurred a severe famine resulting in
scarcity of water; during that period, Arjuna came to see the Sage who asked
him to create a theertham which he did and took a bath in it; Sri Krishna gave
darsan to him and at his prayer, he manifested here as Thamaraiyaal kelvan.
Another story is that Varuna saw the wife of Bruhaspathi and forceably took her
along with him; so, he got brahma hatyaadosham. To get rid of this dosham, he
did penance here and Maha Vishnu gave darsan and stayed here at his request.
Rajagopuram has three stories with five kalasams. The special feature of this
temple is that Sri Krishna and Sri Rama are in the same garbhaalayam. There is
a separate sannidhi for Sage Agastya. UTSAVAR goes to Thirunaangoor every
year for Garuda sevai.

LOCATION: 15 TO 20kms from Madhurai. This
kshetram is also known as dakshina Tirupati, and also as vanagiri.
MOOLAVAR: Sundara baahu perumaal. Also known as Vaikunta Nathan
and as Parmaswami. Swami is with prayoga Chakra hastam.
STHALA PURAANAM: In
this kshetram, Aandaal had promised Swami that she will prepare Ksheeraannam in
100 gangaalams and butter in 100 vessels and offer them as naivedyam. But she
never got an opportunity to fulfil as she got merged into the tirumeni of
sriranganatha Bhagavadramanuja heard of this and fulfilled her vow. After this
he visited Srivilliputhur. Andal came to know about this
kainkaryam of swamy Ramanuja. She wanted to welcome swamy Ramanuja. She came
out of garbhalayam in welcome gesture to swamy Ramanuja and addressed him as
‘En kovil annar ‘. Means he is my brother from Srirangam. This is how swamy
Ramanuja got the title Godagraja. Here Aandal is in sitting posture with
Veettirunda Tirukkolam. This kshetram is also called MAYAL MIGU POLEEL(THIRUVAI
MOZHI 2-10-3). THIRIMANGAI Alwar has praised this Kshetram swamy as
THENNAANAI OR dakshina diggajam. This kshetraswami is also called as
Kallalagar. This Kshetram is called as Alagar kota. North of this sannidhi is
Noopura gangs on a hill. In 18th padikattu of sannidhi gopuram dwaaram,
Karuppan will serve as a watchman. After sannidhi doors are locked, keys are
reported to be with him only. During Brahmostavams only Chakrattaalwaan will
pass through this way; Perumaal will be taken from a side entrance.
This temple is located at a height of 900 feet above sea level. Moolavar is of
8 feet night. This temple is 5000 years old. Temple is in a round
shape. VIMAANAM: somasundara VimaNam made by Viswakarma.
UTSAVAMS: On full
moon day in Meshamaasam, UTSAVAM is held in Vegai river. In karkaata maasam,
brahmostavams is held. In October, chitrostavam, aadivustavam and totti
vustavam is held. All facilities are available for devotees here.

This kshetram is called as THIRUKKOSHTIYOOR and as THIRUGOSHTIYOOR. As
HIRANYAKASAPA never entered this place, many Maharishi's and devataas used to
assemble at this place known as KADAMBAVANAM; This assembly is called as
GOSHTI, hence called as THIRUGOSHTI. MOOLAVAR: Sri
Sowmyanaraayana Swami.

PURAANAM: Kadamba Maharshi did penance here and got moksham from Sri Maha
Vishnu and stayed there at Maharishi's prayer. Thirukottiyoor Nambi was one of
the gurus of Ramanujacharya and got from him Astaakshari Mantra after promising
that he will not divulge this mantra to others. But thereafter, Raamaanuja
claimed up the gopuram and imparted this mantra loudly to all those who
gathered there. When his guru chided him, RaamaNuja replied that even
though he may go to Narakalokam for deviating from his promise, others
who got this mantra will get moksham. Guru was pleased with this reply and
addressed Raamaanuja as EMBERUMAANAARE. THEERTHAM: Hema pushkarini.

vimaanam built by Viswakarma in such a way that gopuram's shadow will not be
seen on any side any time. This temple has three floors; in the

Indralokam, Swami is called as Sri Upendra NaaraYana swami with both thaayars
in standing posture. Third floor is called as Paramapadam and Swami is called
as Sri ParamapadanaTha with both thaayars.
